secret well

Deep in a forest - you have to trek a good couple of kilometres uphill from the nearest road - lies, completely hidden, this little spring. No path leads to it. And hardly anyone knows about it - I've lived here 9 years now and no-one mentioned it until a wonderful female friend took me there, with her little daughter. 'I'll show you something truly out of this world', she said. And it was. Someone, long time ago, took the trouble to build a stone-home for this clear spring, perhaps because they thought it healing. And perhaps it is. And then, - I guess in the 19th century judging by its style - someone took the trouble to carve a figure in deep thought and reverence, to gaze into its source. And someone, now, took the trouble to bring a string of beads to adorn the statue, and left a couple of mugs for passers-by who are in on the secret.
We sat in equal reverence, gazing into the water so clear that you could hardly see it. And we drank - to our health.

Hello,

I just came across your blog. We are moving to Krumlov in May and it is wonderful hearing your thoughts on the area. We are in love with this place...thus, the move :). Where is this beautiful spring? I would love to take my little ones there.

Cheers,
Crystal

hello Crystal, nice to know our small 'expat' community is about to have another family to join us. I should be delighted to show you the well once you are in Krumlov. So do keep in touch. Much luck with the move,
Salamander

Thank you for that! I will be in touch. We are moving from Australia to Krumlov at the end of May with our two little ones. Looking to buy a home there in the next couple of years. Can't wait!

Take Care,

Hello, it is great to read your blog and to view your wonderful photos. Many thanks, a friend from OZ, Tim

Hey Crystal, do you have czech contacts, i.e. are you czech, from oz or married to a czech. I am married to a czech and have two small children. We have lived periodically in czech and i love the border regions. The wife is from Prague. There are so many Australians who have czech partners. All the best to you and your new adventure from Perth, Tim McCabe

Hi Tim,

It has taken me so long to get back to you! My partner is Australian and I am actually American from Northern California. We've been in Australia for the last three years while my partner pursued a masters. We are now ready to move on and Krumlov has been in our hearts :). My partner lived there for a few years managing a hostel and it is where we met. We've been back once with our first little one and have yet to introduce our littlest one to our friends there. Can't wait! How often do you go back? Have you had good experiences there? We are in the process of looking for a place to rent while we look for a property to buy, any tips?

Cheers!
Crystal

Hi Crystal
Our little expat group here consists of people who live here full-time (some in Cesky Krumlov itself, some nearby)and those who have second homes here. We'll gladly help you find accommodation and/or place to buy - probably with more understanding than local property agents. What are you looking for?

You can write here, where any of us can give you tips, or go to the czechpropertysearch link on the left, where you can get general idea of what is available in the area, and if you are interested, there is an email address to contact Salamander, a professional property scout, independent of any estate agents.

But, whichever way you go, we all look forward to welcoming you in our close-knit and mutually supportive community.

Thanks for that! Any help would be wonderful! We are actually just searching for a place to rent temporarily when we first arrive. Perhaps for just a month or few until we get situated. At the moment we've got our eye on a piece of property for sale and have had a friend take a look at it and will look for ourselves when we get there. If it is the property for us, then we would start the proceedings to buy, if not, then perhaps we will be contacting salamander :). As I said though, we are really looking for a place to rent at the moment, something that would be suitable for children with a bit of nature. A house would be nice but we are not picky and an apartment would also do.

I really enjoy your blog! I was just ooogling over your pics of the snow, I'm from the mountains and miss my snow and the change of seasons. I just sent a link to your blog to my brother who will come and visit us soon after we arrive...an introduction to Krumlov :). Thank you for your response and your warm welcome.
